Welcome

At Zion, you’ll find we’re young, old and in-between. Some of us love contemporary worship, and some of us prefer the more traditional hymns we sing. We offer a blended worship experience that above all else allows us to “Engage the World with God’s Amazing Grace!” Our prayer is that you will visit and feel at home and want to continue to worship with us on a regular basis or whenever you’re just passing through.

The Things of This World

As children we begin life with a mindset that is very basic. We think of the world as either one way or another way. The ball that mommy or daddy holds in front of them either exists or it doesn’t. When the ball is in view it exists. When it is behind their back it doesn’t. But eventually we learn that even though the ball is out of site it still exists.

Jesus tells Peter that when we become adults that mindset changes. When we become adults, we learn that there are many different ways to be the body of Christ. It’s helpful for us to try to see the world a little differently because as adults someone will wrap a belt around us and take us where we may not want to go. One of those things is the belief in things we cannot see.

Jesus says that living a life of faith is living a life believing in a God we cannot see, storing up for ourselves treasures that we cannot see, finding in all people the reality of being created in the image of God. It begins with what we see but then goes beyond that to the things not of this world.

Paul describes this new way of seeing the world by removing the distinctions that tend to divide us. There is neither slave nor free, male nor female, Jew nor Greek. To say that a little differently, we might suggest that Paul is saying there is both Jew and Greek, slave and free, male and female, including everyone in the set of potential Kingdom of God participants. All people are capable of love because God created us in God’s image and God is love.

You might have heard me mention the only Latin phrase I know: simul justes et peccator-simultaneously saints and sinners...both at the same time. It takes some practice to experience that because we are so programmed to see the world as either/or (winners or losers, male or female, American or not American, Christian or non-Christian, etc.)

Jesus’ commandment to the disciples was to love one another as God loves us. John 3:16 tells us that God loved the world, all people. Therefore, you will never encounter a person that God does not love. That’s the Kingdom of God that we pray to bring to this earth: thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
